TAS: Coroner criticises ABC team for taking evidence
Four Corners later issued a statement saying the news crew removed the evidence fromthe scene so it would not be lost to the tide or buried under sand.
The statement says newsworthiness was never a consideration in removing the items andFour Corners believes its staff acted sensitively and reasonably.
The broadcaster says the wallet and licence were found on the beach on 17 July lastyear -- three months after the fishermen were thought to have died.
The ABC said it tried to hand the items to the Coroner's office and then police, butinvestigators failed to collect the evidence so it was given to the GILES family.
