NSW:Govt hurts NSW clean car industry:opp'n
The New South Wales opposition says the clean car industry has been dealt a massive
blow after a plan to make the state's petrol stations sell more environmentally friendly
fuel was suspended.
Legislation was due to come into force from January 1 that would have required primary
petrol wholesalers to ensure biodiesel accounts for at least five per cent of all New
South Wales fuel sales, up from the current two per cent.
However, New South Wales energy minister CHRIS HARTCHER announced today the plan will
be suspended because there isn't enough biofuel being produced locally to meet the five
per cent target.
Opposition Energy spokesman LUKE FOLEY says the government's decision is a major blow
to the industry and will discourage investment in environmentally friendly fuels.
