Qld: Land use agreements give green light to mining
BRISBANE, Dec 23 AAP - The signing of six native title land use agreements today would
mean more mining exploration in north Queensland, Mines Minister Stephen Robertson said.
Mr Robertson said the Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA) would pave the way for
more than 130 mining and exploration permits in the region.
"This means the government can expedite the processing of mineral exploration permit
applications as well as give mining companies the certainty they need to get on with the
job," he said in a statement.
"Mining operations that result from these agreements will create new jobs in the region
and provide a range of economic and community benefits for the traditional owners of the
land."
