NAT: Praise for greater understanding of Islam, as fast ends

MELBOURNE, Jan 17 AAP - Australians were today praised for their increased understanding of
the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, as an estimated 300,000 Australians Muslims prepared to
celebrate the end of the fast this week.

Bilal Cleland, secretary of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, said more
Australians were aware of the Ramadan fast and willing to make allowances for Muslim
colleagues or employees.
