JOHANNESBURG: Newly appointed prosecuting boss Menzi Simelane has slammed criticism of his posting as driven by "armchair critics" opposed to transformation.

Breaking his silence on the controversy around his appointment as National Director of Public Prosecutions by President Jacob Zuma, Simelane is adamant that the furore has "not had any impact" on his plans for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

While a subcommittee of the General Council of the Bar is evaluating whether or not he should be struck from the roll of advocates, Simelane maintains he "has not formally received any complaint" about his new appointment. …
